ANNUAL FEAST OF OUR LADY OF MIRACLES IN BUFALO
The 79th annual local Feast of Our Lady of Miracles of Mussomeli will be celebrated on Sunday, September 13. A Mass will be offered at 11:15 a.m., in St. Anthony of Padua Church, 160 Court St., Buffalo (behind the City Hall). A luncheon will follow at the Buffalo Convention Center on Franklin St. between Court and Huron Sts. A special welcome to those of Mussomelese origin.
The Feast commemorates the healing of a paralytic through the intercession of Mary just outside the Sicilian town of Mussomeli. The local observance is the largest annual Italian-American religious celebration in Western New York, attracting hundreds of devotees of Mussomelese ancestry from Western New York, Rochester, and Southern Ontario.
The principal celebrant of the Mass will be Rev. Charles Amico, theology professor at Christ the King Seminary in East Aurora. Concelebrating will be Rev. Msgr. Francis Sorci, Pastor Emeritus of Christ the King Church, Snyder, and Rev. Secondo Casarotto, CS, Pastor of St. Anthony of Padua Church, Buffalo.
The beautiful statue of Our Lady of Miracles, venerated in St. Anthony's Church, has been artfully restored to its original elegance. Donations to help defray the cost of restoration can be made either in person at the luncheon or by mail to "Our Lady of Miracles Society," P.O. Box 1410, Buffalo, NY, 14240. Make checks payable to "Our Lady of Miracles Society."
This year's guests of honor are longtime active members of the Mussomelese Society: Mr. and Mrs. Arthur (Bonfante) Crawford and Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Testa.
